Police have charged a man with the murder of a man who they think was involved in a fight on Sunday.
Thomas Evans, 31, of Bordesley Road, Morden, was today charged with the murder of Anthony Thompson, a 26-year-old from Tooting.
Police were called to reports of a man being assaulted in Holmbury Court, near Tooting High Street at 2.40pm on February 5, where they found him suffering from a head injury.
Mr Thompson, who lived around the corner from Holmbury Court in Derinton Road, was taken by ambulance to a south London hospital but died yesterday (February 7).
Detectives believe the victim was with friends when he was assaulted during an altercation in the vicinity of Holmbury Court and are keeping an open mind regarding motive.
Mr Evans will appear at Camberwell Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning but is not expected to plea.
Any witnesses, or anyone who may have information about Mr Thompson's death, is urged to contact the police's incident room on 020 8721 4155 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
