A good Samaritan who tried to stop a woman being beaten up in Sutton town centre was knocked unconscious by the attacker and suffered a broken leg.

The 25-year-old man was assaulted and pushed to the ground after he stepped in to defend a woman who was being kicked and punched by a thug near the burger stand in Sutton High Street at 3am on Sunday, July 1.

The pair had been arguing before the man became violent. The victim now has permanent metal plates in his leg after the attack which left him unconscious on the ground.

He did not report the attack until later in the month because he was in hospital, a police spokesman said.

In another violent attack in Worcester Park, a 35-year-old man was left with broken bones and two black eyes after three men set on him in a kebab shop.

The attack happened at about 2am on Saturday, July 21, at Nefis Surrey Kebabs in Central Road. The victim was attacked by three men and suffered multiple injuries including a broken nose, a broken wrist in two places, extensive bruising on his back and two black eyes.

Sutton Police are keen to speak to a woman who was in the kebab shop at the time, as well as any other witnesses who saw the three attackers running away. Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Neil Morley-Smith on 020 8649 0741.
