Thames body identified as missing Saville Row tailor from Thornton Heath

The body of a man recovered from the River Thames has been identified as missing Saville Row tailor Harry Bhageerutty.

The 74-year-old had been missing since June 12, when he was last seen leaving his home in Galpins Road, on the Thornton Heath and Mitcham border.

His body was discovered in the water near Hutchings Street, E14, on Tuesday, June 19.

Police said he had recently suffered from high blood pressure and possible memory loss.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as drowning.

Officers continue to make enquiries to establish Mr Bhageerutty's movements prior to his death.

An inquest into his death will open in due course.
