Croydon business to support shut down youth club

A Croydon business targeted by rioters last summer is investing in the next generation’s future.

Staples, the world’s largest office products company, has donated more than £5000 to White Horse Youth Club, forced to close in 2011 due to budget cuts, allowing it to reopen and provide training for new volunteers.

The company’s nearby store on Whitehorse Road was ransacked by looters during the August riots.

Les Reed, Croydon store manager, said: "Our store has been a big part of the community for many years.

"After our store was hit by the riots, the community supported us in getting back on our feet. We wanted to help the community in turn.

"We saw an opportunity to help restore this valuable youth service within our community. We’re delighted to make it easy to help local kids."

Joyce Quinnell, CEO of Surrey Clubs for Young People, the charity that oversees the White Horse Youth Club said: "We’re really pleased Staples has decided to help us.

"Their commitment will make such a difference to the children and young people of our community."

Sadly it's not the only town ruined by gangs of intimidating youths with a misplaced sense of entitlement.

Believe it or not? this a positive story about Croydon and the community, why is it that 'Grass is always greener brigade' have to slate Croydon on this website? Croydon is the best place in the universe to live in- it must be because I live here.
