Teen stabbed man during street brawl Teen stabbed man during street brawl

A teen who stabbed an 18-year-old leaving him seriously injured has been handed a two year referral order.

The incident occurred when a group of youths had a fight at about 4pm in North End, Croydon, on October 15.

The victim, who was not involved in the initial mêlée, was then stabbed by the 17-year-old in the torso and was left seriously injured.

The suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, attempted to flee the scene but was quickly arrested inside a nearby department store by officers.

The victim was taken to hospital where it was discovered his lung had collapsed, although his injuries turned out not to be life threatening or changing.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty on January 9, 2012 to grievous bodily harm with intent.

At Croydon Crown Court on Monday he was sentenced to two year referral order, and three months under electronic monitoring.

DC Andrew Miller, from Croydon CID who investigated the case said: “This could have so easily ended up with a tragic ending, but fortunately the victim was able to make a recovery.

“The incident happened on a busy Saturday afternoon and doubtless a number of shoppers and families would have been affected by it.

“However, this type of incident is rare and police officers were on the scene within minutes to arrest the suspect.

“The evidence against him was such that he entered a guilty plea and saved the victim any trauma of a trial.”

Typical Judge who is blinkered again, no wonder this Country and in particular Croydon is falling so far down into the cess pit it will never come out.

They talk as though the offender is a child as he is only 17yrs old......what a load of sh1t he should be named and shamed and he should have got 8 yrs inside.

Why do these Judges listen to so much lies about the offenders childhood? often never questioned and never asked to substantiate.

This scumbag went out armed with a knife with intent and he used it and could have murdered someone.

Det Con Miller.....where is your comments re the sentencing stating how disgraceful this is and a lengthy prison sentence should have been given, grow some balls man and use them.

Don't worry 'Have your say', his next victim won't be so lucky and he'll get the 8yrs. So what happened to minimum sentencing for Knife crime?

Bit strong - but I do know what you mean. Maybe some judges do need a dose of reality sometimes.

Surely this decision goes against all democratic opinion - what's the point of voting when judges and lords decide in so many important areas?

Thugs are younger these days.
Time to lower the age for withholding their names.

Words can't describe how ridiculous this sentence is. What message does this send out to youths around knife crime.

He intended to seriously harm someone!!!

All done on a Saturday at 4PM in the middle of busy town centre so they caused fear to other innocent shoppers aswell as the victim. Just shows how much this person cared about his actions!!!

If they name him he would probably be proud!! That’s the problem with teenagers today... they want the Asbos like Scouts want badges.

Send him out to the front line and let people try to kill him for a change!! See how he likes conflict then!!

Lower the age you can go to a regular prison... if you’re old enough to join the army, you should be old enough to go to big boy prison!!
