Unite union wants £500 Olympic pay bonus for Greenwich Council staff

BUS and tube drivers have already tried it - now it's council workers turn to demand a bonus for working during the Olympics.
The Unite union says it is pursuing a claim for Greenwich Council staff which would see them issued with £500 extra during the Games. But council chiefs say they are unaware the demand has even been made.
Branch secretary Onay Kasab, who also wants more cash for workers on the Woolwich Ferry, cited reported bonuses for senior transport chiefs as proof that ordinary workers should get more.
He said: "The impact on our members will be significant. Those who drive as part of the job will in particular find the job harder to undertake due to the various traffic restrictions. Journeys will be delayed significantly. Staff are being denied leave and time off."
With three venues in the borough and a significant amount of the roads and train network affected by transport changes during the Games, people in Greenwich are likely to experience disruption in the coming weeks.
Mr Kasab said: "Our members, who will face increased stress and worry over the Olympic period, deserve recognition for the fact that they will have to perform over and above what they are normally paid for.
"If it's good enough for senior managers at Transport for London, its good enough for those who will keep London moving, clean, safe and fed."
He claimed the demand had been put in at a regular trade union liaison meeting back in March.
But a Greenwich Council spokesman said: "Staff will continue to be paid during the Olympics and Paralympics in accordance with the standard terms and conditions agreed with the unions.
"We are unaware of Unite's request for staff to receive bonuses for working during the Olympics."

How will they suffer more stress and worry than someone else travelling further and will have queuing/penning at their station when they travel home?

Awful - once again, it's pure greed. Sack the lot of them if they don't want to work during the Olympics.

Google Onay Kasab and have a read.

Greenwich Council workers are the most retarded group of people you could ever meet. If they, for one second, support this ridiculous claim it only further supports my statement. Their union should be ashamed to put this forward. And this just weeks away from the Olympics.
Come on Mr Roberts, as the demigod and Lord and Master of all things Greenwich put your house in order and tell these idiots to 'bug' off.
How much does Mr Roberts earn, compared with the average Council employee?
How much does the Chief Executive earn? For doing what exactly?
Council employees' pay has been frozen, for 4 years, many have had their pay cut by 10% or more, compared with inflation of 3-4% per annum

But with every restructure, we see many people lose, but some always seem to gain!!!!!!

Good !! We cant keep paying morons to lean on a shovel or shuffle paper. Most council function should be outsourced, put out to tender to private companies.

That's where you get the minimum amount of service the private entity can get away with, whilst charging for every little extra they can.
Not unlike PFI contracts, that have now put our local hospitals into administration.

So my journey to work is going to be disrupted due to changes to trains (where workers are getting £500 bonus) so what am I going to get?

We are not greedy like other transport companies.

People whose jobs are DIRECTLY affected - like transport workers, and suchlike - should totally get a bonus. £500 seems reasonable. But there is no way in heck that people who are just doing their normal job with no extra pressure should get a bonus.

No.
It means that these leeches should be slung out of their jobs for not abiding by their contracts.
Their argument that the people on top are getting a bonus so they should too is just pure ar5e water as well. The fact that person a gets something that's wrong isn't justified by extending the wrongness by giving it persons b, c and d!! Stop person a from getting it and, if its budgeted for anyway, give it to charity or the eldery!
Scum sucking bunch of leeches. Clarkson had it right, shoot the lot of them.
