A SCHEME set up to boost young people's achievements is extending its work in Lewisham following a £3m funding boost.

The Jack Petchey Foundation has been running its Achievement Award Scheme since 1999, taking applications from schools, clubs and youth groups working with people aged 11 to 25.

Inspirational young people receive a framed certificate, a Young Achievers badge and £200 to spend on their school, club or organisation.

Money has been spent on additional equipment, days out, local community projects and specialist training - with £546,000 going to Lewisham groups so far.

Grants officer Jane Evans said "It has been wonderful building relationships with schools and youth groups in Lewisham over the past five years and I am delighted that the Jack Petchey Foundation is now able to welcome applications from more youth groups doing inspirational work with young people."
