Brockley gunman sees sentence doubled

A 23-YEAR-OLD criminal caught carrying a loaded gun in a residential street has seen his sentence doubled.

Zephen Rollings had his sentence for possession of a loaded firearm with intent to enable another to endanger life, increased from five to 10 years at the Court of Appeal today.

Rollings, who had previous convictions for criminal damage and cocaine possession, was searched in a minicab on July 6 last year outside his girlfriend’s home in Turnham Road, Brockley.

Inside his bag, officers found an American .357 Magnum calibre Smith and Wesson revolver containing live ammunition.

The handgun was later found to have been used in a shooting in Camberwell earlier that year.

He pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to enable another to endanger life and possessing a prohibited weapon and ammunition.

Rollings, from Camberwell, was sentenced on November 10 at Woolwich Crown Court.

Speaking after the appeal, Solicitor General Edward Garnier MP said: “In my view the original sentence of five years was unduly lenient and did not properly reflect the seriousness of the crime.

“It was truly shocking that a gun loaded with dum dum bullets, which expand on impact, was being carried in broad daylight in a residential street.”
