BROMLEY Council is claiming victory after fining a company for refusing to clear up rubbish from a shopping parade.
Complaints about Beaconsfield Parade in Mottingham flooded into Bromley Council last year after fly tipped rubbish began to pile up in the area.
The council approached landowner Headstates Limited who, the local authority says, made no effort to clear up the rubbish.
With no end in sight, council staff cleared up the mess themselves and put up secure fencing.
Now Headstates Limited has been fined £10,750 and ordered to pay the local authority costs of £11,382 after pleading guilty to breaching the Environment Protection Act.
Council leader Councillor Stephen Carr said: “This was an extremely protracted case which could have been solved very quickly if the owners of the land had reacted appropriately.
“Landowners must remove rubbish irrespective of whether it belongs to them or is dumped by someone else.”
