BLACKHEATH: Students enjoy World Book Day

SCHOOLCHILDREN have been taking part in workshops and storytelling to celebrate World Book Day.

Librarian Jenny Bache organised the event at St Matthew Academy, St Joseph’s Vale, Blackheath.

Pupils aged 11 to 14 enjoyed workshops led by poet Jocelyn Paige, who helped the children write their own poetry.

Author of The Tygrine Cat, Inbali Iserles, spoke of her career and gave the children writing tips.

Admissions officer, Christine Hever, said: “With workshops, storytelling, quizzes and fancy dress there was something special for all the children.”

Writer Carol Russell treated the youngsters to storytelling and they also heard from Alex Wheatle and Joe Craig author of Jimmy Coates’ fame.

Year 11 students dressed up as superheroes and read to the nursery children, who came as their favourite fictional character.
