DARTFORD: Firefighters' car wash day raises more than £1,000

FIREFIGHTERS have washed people’s cars to raise money to buy prosthetic limbs for a four-year-old who has lost his arms and legs.

A crew of 20 were at the ready with buckets and sponges at Dartford Fire Station in Watling Street, to give around 200 cars a clean in exchange for a donation to the Harvey Slack Fund.

More than £1,000 was raised for Harvey Slack, from Stockport, who had his arms and legs amputated after catching meningitis.

While their cars received a gleaming polish, drivers were also given the chance to brush up on their knowledge of home fire safety.

Watch manager Richard Cromarty said: “People were very grateful to get their cars washed.

“One person donated as much as £50.

“A lot of firefighters here are fathers, and Harvey’s story touched a nerve.”
