Recycling banks for electrical items set up across Bromley

SMALL electrical items can now be recycled at six new recycling banks which have been set up across Bromley.

The move by Bromley Council is designed to encourage more recycling and make it more convenient for people to do so.

Anything with a battery or a plug can be recycled and batteries and low energy lightbulbs are also welcome at the banks.

Executive councillor for the environment Colin Smith said: “We are all well versed by now as to the huge financial benefits of recycling, but particularly with small electrical items which ‘fit in the bin’, it has sadly been a temptation for some people until now to throw such equipment away as general rubbish, especially when faced with the alternative choice of an unwelcome trip to the tip.

“Now, thanks to these new extended recycling arrangements, assuming the item in question doesn’t still work and couldn’t instead be donated to a charity shop, there is an easy and convenient option to hand nearby to avoid doing so.”

In Chislehurst there is a bank in the High Street car park and in West Wickham there is one in the Ravenswood Avenue car park.

Elmers End has a bank in the Tesco car park and there is one in Chislehurst in the Waitrose car park, Main Road.

Bromley has one in Walter’s Yard near Sainsbury’s and one in the car park of Norman Park near the Hayes Lane entrance.

...oh dear - i do hope they are 'sealed' containers ? the last thing one needs is vans with funny number plates removing the electrical items.

None in Biggin Hill, BR5 or BR6. We use these things with a battery or a plug can be recycled and batteries and low energy lightbulbs but have to travel miles to dispose of them. I can see the 'low lives' will continue to fly tip.

Can Bromley catagorically state that this electronic waste won't be sold to a sweatshop in the third world, where 7 year old children burn off the plastic to get to the copper???
