Councillors join calls to save Sydenham police station
LEWISHAM councillors have called on the Met Police to abandon proposals that could see Sydenham police station axed.
Back in January, a community campaign was launched to keep the building in Dartmouth Road open, organising an online petition that has 420 signatures so far.
Last night, councillors backed a motion from Cllr Chris Best and Cllr Janet Daby calling on the Met to "reject any decision to close Sydenham police station and to support the views of residents to provide local policing from a local base."
It is feared that a closure would see the area's Safer Neighbourhoods Teams relocated to Catford.
A spokeswoman claimed no decision had yet been made, saying: "We are looking at police estate requirements in Lewisham.
"Our aim is to improve the policing across the borough for the long term and looking at our property requirements is a key part of this."
