CYCLISTS were able to improve the safety of their bikes at a free security marking event.
Bromley police's safer transport team marked and registered 39 bikes on the bikeregister.com database outside Orpington train station on Saturday.
By registering details of bikes online, police and retailers are able to identify and verify the legitimate owner of bikes.
This increases the chances of returning stolen bikes to their rightful owners.
PC Darren Barlow from Bromley police’s safer transport team said: "This was a great opportunity for cyclists to improve the safety of their bikes.
"Bicycles can be easy for thieves to target, but if more people registered their bikes it would make it a lot easier for police to verify if they’ve been stolen and return them to the rightful owner when recovered.
"Without this information it is almost impossible for us to trace the owners of cycles that come into our possession".
