THE TRIAL into a 42-year-old man accused of bludgeoning a woman to death at her home in Crystal Palace has begun.
Stephen Foad, of Foxhill Lane, Crystal Palace, denies murdering Siobhan Kelly, with whom he was having a casual relationship.
Ms Kelly, 39, was found by police three weeks after her death at her flat in Tudor Road.
Foad was the last person to see her alive on January 15 last year.
The Old Bailey heard she was bludgeoned around the head, punched and stamped on in the attack.
Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson said she had been the victim of a “sustained and savage” attack which left her with fractured ribs and boot marks on her clothing.
Police found her decomposing body wrapped in a duvet on the bed after they forced their way into her flat.
There were blood spatter marks in the bedroom and living room.
Mr Atkinson said she had been attacked at different times in both rooms.
There is evidence she might have been knocked unconscious for a while after being struck with a candle in the living room before crawling into the bedroom where she was attacked again.
A bedside lamp was thought to have been used to strike her several times.
Mr Atkinson said palm prints in blood in both rooms allegedly matched Foad, as did the bloody boot prints.
The trial continues.
