YOUNG people across the borough have been busy electing their representatives for the Bromley Youth Council.

More than 7,000 young people between the ages of 11 and 19 turned out to cast their votes for their peers to represent them.

There were 72 candidates from 12 schools, with 30 being elected to the council. The results are expected later this week.

The youth council, which has links to schools, youth service and other bodies representing young people, gives teenagers the chance to have a say in how local services are organised.

The council meets regularly to discuss issues which are relevant to young people in Bromley and works to influence policy and development within the local authority on behalf of young people.

Portfolio holder for children and young people Councillor Ernest Noad said: “Bromley’s youth elections are a good way for young people in the borough to find out about politics and how they can get their views across.
