FIREFIGHTERS who attended a chimney fire are advising people to make sure theirs are swept regularly if they plan to use them this winter.
The crew from Biggin Hill was called to the George & Dragon pub, High Street, Downe, to tackle the flames at around 10pm on Saturday (February 4).
They managed to stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the building, which was once visited by Charles Darwin and his staff.
It took them around 45 minutes to deal with the incident.
A spokesman from Biggin Hill fire station said: “If people are going to use chimneys, make sure they have been swept and maintained properly first.”
