BROMLEY: Road safety top of the agenda at meeting

POLICE and council bosses assured a busy meeting they were succeeding in tackling the “carnage on our roads”.
The Bromley Community Engagement Forum organised the public event at Bromley Football Club to discuss road safety and accident rates.
The local authority’s road safety manager Elaine Beadle argued the council and its partners, including Bromley police and the London Fire Brigade, were successfully bringing accident rates down.
Borough commander Chief Superintendent Charles Griggs told the meeting: “When you look at the number of deaths on the roads in this country every year, its appalling.
“It’s actually carnage on our roads.
“But every single death, injury and collision is preventable.”
At last night's meeting (March 17), the audience raised concerns about the large numbers of Ravensbourne School pupils crossing at the busy junction of Hayes Lane and Masons Hill in Bromley.
