POLICE are hunting a violent eastern European gang who smashed their way into a terrified teenager’s car.

The late-night robbery saw five men surround a small hatchback in Bromley, kicking the car and screaming at the 19-year-old woman behind the wheel.

The group wanted the driver and her 18-year-old passenger to hand over their mobile phones.

One of the men then shattered the driver’s window and dragged the woman, who had spent the night at the Railway Tavern pub, onto the road.

The group grabbed her phone and sat nav before fleeing in a waiting silver Vauxhall Astra, leaving her bleeding in College Road.

Bromley Police’s Detective Inspector Jane Corrigan said: “This was a vicious and nasty attack that happened in a part of Bromley that is quite busy at this time of the evening.

“We're hoping to jog people's memories with the e-fit that the victim has given us. Someone out there must know this group.”

The teenagers’ ordeal began when they left the pub at around 10.45pm on June 17.

As the pair got into their car in East Street, Bromley, they noticed the gang watching them.

White and blue jumper

When the car slowly pulled away, the gang rushed forwards and tried to drag the occupants into the street.

The teenager valiantly turn her Fiat Seicento around and escaped, but was forced to stop for a red traffic light in College Road.

A police spokesman said: “The suspect vehicle had followed them and the five occupants surrounded the victim’s vehicle, kicking it and shouting and screaming at the victims to hand over their phones.”

The man who then smashed the car window is described as Turkish or eastern European in appearance, aged 18 to 20 and about 6ft tall.

He was wearing a striped white and blue jumper.

The other four suspects are also described as eastern European, all aged about 18 to 20.

The group fled the scene along College Road towards Downham.

Anyone who has any information should call DC Gavin Pitcher at Bromley Police on 020 8284 8785 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
