YOUNGSTERS stepped back in time to the 17th century and experienced what it was like during the English Civil War.
Pupils at Perry Hall Primary School in Orpington, were visited by a Royalist major, a Parliamentarian pikeman and a mercenary master gunner as part of their history class.
Performers from the Sealed Knot, a society that reenacts the English Civil War, thrilled children with a display of weapons and demonstrated how shoes 300 years ago were made for either foot.
They also got the pupils, aged from five to 11 at the school in Perry Hall Road, to help load a huge swivel gun.
History teacher Gill Hughes said: “It was a fantastic way for all of our children to learn about a period of history they don’t normally study at primary school.
“We feel very privileged to have had such an exciting morning.”
