Council leader, Councillor Teresa O’Neill.
A UNANAMOUS vote has been passed by Bexley Councillors to help reduce energy bills for elderly homeowners .
Councillors voted at a council meeting to urge energy companies to work closer with pensioners and provide them with the most cost-effective energy possible.
It was argued the elderly are most at risk from the threat of fuel poverty, most vulnerable to cold weather and least likely to investigate cheaper tariffs.
Council leader, Councillor Teresa O’Neill said: “Energy bills are one of the biggest costs families and pensioners in Bexley face.
“As a council we feel it is the responsibility of the energy companies to work with our older customers to help provide them with the best deal they can.”
Councillor O’Neill is now writing to Bexley’s MPs and asking them to back the council call for action.
