Town centre road to shut

A MAJOR road in High Wycombe town centre is to close for four weeks while it is widened.

Bellfield Road will shut to traffic during major works to redevelop some of the roads around the Sainsbury's store.

Works are currently taking place on the main A40 Oxford Road to reconstruct the pedestrian footway and realign traffic signals.

The full project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with Bellfield Road closing on June 16 before re-opening to traffic on July 11.

Pedestrians will still be able to access Bellfield Road while the work is carried out.

A signal controlled crossing on the A40 Oxford Road opposite Bridge Street will be temporarily switched off to allow alterations to traffic lights.

You queue for so long to get out of there onto the A40 anyway, it may as well stay shut.

Great! When the road is wider there will be two or three queues of cars waiting for those infernal traffic lights to change.

Don’t widen to road just get rid of the lights!!!!

I drive around the roundabout at the end of Abby Way twice a day, and I have to say the traffic lights appear to work very well.

I agree Elmo in general, but the ones on the fly-over are totally unnecessary.
To leave Morrissons and travel to West Wycombe I go around this roundabout because it is quicker than queuing at the Sainsburys lights.
Let’s have the roundabout back.

I agree Elom. I drive around them in the rush hour and I feel much safer than I used to when it was just a roundabout. People just have to learn to wait.
