PLANS for Beaconsfield’s Olympic celebrations have been unveiled - including a mobility scooter dash, tug of war and poetry contests.
The Beaconsfield Games will take place on Saturday, July 7, with most events happening at the two senior schools on Wattleton Road.
They will be based on 1970s show Superstars, where British athletes competed in a mini-tournament to find the ultimate sportsman.
Bob Massie, who lives in Beaconsfield, was executive producer on the show and has given the green light for the branding and concept to be used.
Competitors will battle it out in a series of contests, with entrants able to pick as many of the events as they want, gaining points as they go along.
Town and distirct councillor Matt Denyer, organising the games, said: "It's really about getting the whole town involved....There's something for everyone, from five year olds to 80 year olds.
"The Olympics bring the nation together and we hope the games will do the same for Beaconsfield."
The day will kick-off with a fun run through the town, starting at Holtspur School, with other events including swimming races, football games and tennis matches.
Local clubs are also joining in, with Beaconsfield Squash Club set to stage a tournament.
Beaconsfield Town Council has given £5,000 towards costs, and businesses will be asked for sponsorship.
Cllr Denyer added: "We're looking for small businesses to sponsor events, programmes and contribute to the day. It can be anything from £50 to sponsorship for a whole event."
Plans are also being hatched for a battle of the bands contest and firework display in the evening. More details about tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.
