A SHOCKED farmer has spoken about the discovery of a dead body on land in Wooburn Common over the weekend.

The body of Ryszard Karpuc, 44, from West Ealing, was found by a member of a game bird shoot on the Hall Barn Estate, in a spot off Green Common Lane on Saturday at about 11.30am.

Farmer Neal Rayner, 58, of nearby Castleman’s Farm said: “It was the last proper shoot before the end of the season, so the body might have been there for quite a long time if they hadn’t found it.”

Colonel Geoff Brown, agent for the Hall Barn Estate, said: “The body was found during a family shoot, in a woodland right on the southern boundary.

“It was obviously quite a shock. It’s not the sort of thing you would expect to find. We reported it to the police and let them carry out their investigation.”

Detective Superintendent Rob Mason said he is keeping an open mind as to the circumstances of the death.

The result of the post mortem examination carried out on Saturday was inconclusive, and officers were this week waiting for the results of further tests. An inquiry has been launched to determine whether the death is a murder or not.

South Bucks Chief Inspector Kate Ford said: “Any unexplained death is rigorously investigated and I would like to reassure people that such an event is very rare.”

Two men from West London, aged 32 and 36, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail until Tuesday.

A third man from West London, aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday and has been released on bail until March 13.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with any knowledge that may assist this investigation should call 101, or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

* THE case has brought back memories of the unsolved murder of Beata Bryl, a Polish woman whose burnt body was also found in Wooburn Common.

An inquest heard she was battered more than 20 times over the head before being set alight. Her corpse was discovered in Sheepcote Woods, off Hedsor Lane, in July 2006.

Police believed the former beauty pageant contestant was killed elsewhere. The 23-year-old had last been seen alive at Leytonstone Tube station, near where she was thought to be staying with friends.

Her killers have never been brought to justice despite a nationwide appeal and a £25,000 reward being offered for information.

There is nothing to suggest the two cases are linked.
