Forecasters: Up to 10cm more snow today in Chilterns and 5cm in Buckinghamshire

THERE could be as much as another 10cm of snow later today at the highest points in the Chilterns according to the latest Met office forecasts.

Weather reports have varied between rain or further snow fall for the region but Met spokesman Sarah Davies, based in Maidenhead, says it looks likely to be another white rather than wet afternoon and evening.

“There could be more snow, about 2cm to 5cm in Buckinghamshire today, enough to cause a bit concern and throughout tomorrow and up over the top of the Chilterns up to 10cm,” she said.

“At the moment it's coming down as rain but it's getting colder and colder.”

The snow fall is expected to happen between 3pm and 6pm, getting lighter into the night.

The outlook for the area is not entirely clear because it is on the boundary, she said, but forecasters believe Buckinghamshire is more likely to get weather similar to the Midlands than further south.

“It's a difficult one, it's our best guess. Bucks is right in the wrong place, it will probably be all rain across Berkshire and snow in the Midland with Oxfordshire and Bucks in the middle," she said.

Mrs Davies said: “You do have to estimate as to where that boundary is going to be but with Bucks' higher points it does tend to get a bit more.”

Temperatures could drop below freezing during the night.

There is also a “question mark” over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, she added, with the possibility of yet more snow.

What a very vague forecast! On the one hand it may snow..on the other it may rain. It MAY fall below freezing tonight, it may not. Hmmm- I think I could write weather reports as well as Mrs Sarah Davies!

If it does start snowing in Wycombe would someone be kind enough to post here - girlfriend and I both work about 1hr away and we had terrible trouble getting home last week. Thanks in advance!

Gritters are no good until the snow falls. It has been raining all morning and any salt/grit spread overnight or whilst it is raining will get washed away in minutes. Then this site will
be full of posts asking why the roads were not gritted!!
.
If it does start to snow then the gritters can spread on the snow to melt it and break it up before it becomes compacted.
.
As soon as there is any sign of snow there is liable to be an enormous number of cars on the road either trying to get home early or to "pop down to the shops quickly before it gets any worse". In that case the gritters cannot do their job because the roads are jammed.
.
As was seen last week, once that happens the gritters get stranded in the traffic.

April which year???

Council is so cash strapped will not be able to afford to fix the pot holes.

Didn't the council state a month or two ago that they had no intention of repairing potholes? the ones they did last year were only filled in by a bloke with a shovel full of tarmac which was then patted don with the back of said shovel (thats why they have fallen to pieces again)

Perhaps the council should get rid of several overly paid employees who simply read the internet all day and then they would have cash left to fix the potholes & de-ice the pavements? N.b. 'DeepThinker' the council left snow and ice on the pavements for days after the snow fell last week. I believe an elderly person died as a result of slipping. Surely there is no excuse for not de-icing in that case?
