Seer Green pensioner urges council not to cut the only bus in the village

A PENSIONER from Seer Green has urged a council not to make cuts to the only bus service in the village - saying it is already “like living on the Yorkshire Moors”.

The 305 bus currently travels between Uxbridge and High Wycombe seven times a day, but around half the stops will be cut from January 4.

It will only travel between Uxbridge and Beaconsfield, meaning Seer Green residents will be forced to get two buses into High Wycombe. The last bus of the day will also be cut.

Buckinghamshire County Council subsidise the service and have given the contract to a new company.

Barbara Clarke, of Wood Pond Close, wrote to the council: “We [pensioners] have only recently been given free travel and now you propose giving us fewer buses.

“I feel quite desperate about this and cannot convey to you how I feel. I would feel so depressed by your actions that I could not bear it.”

She complains that she cannot go far because the last bus [currently at 6.40pm] returns too early as it is.

Andy Clarke, group manager for transport services at BCC, said: “The last journey of the day was only used by a very small number of people and didn't represent value for money.”

He said the Beaconsfield to High Wycombe leg of the journey was not subsidised by the council and Jason Tours, which takes on the contract in January, has chosen not to continue it. Arriva currently runs the service.

He said passengers can get on another bus in Beaconsfield if they are travelling on to High Wycombe.

So profit before people rules again.this is a disgrace we expect a service in public life you cannot always run at a profit.I see the council is involved well I would ask them to represent its votors by demanding that the bus companys operate on a service mandate not a profit mandate.I have on several occasions seen buses along London rd with no one on them. That does not matter they are needed and so is this route. You cannot isolate people, and in this case the elderly who have no other option but yours.

Last bus of the day is 6.40? That is a complete joke to anyone wanting a social life that replies on buses.

I absolutely agree with the cuts. Busses are a disgrace to the environment and are part of the problem, not the solution.

We should be looking to cancel as many services as possible that are not properly utililised (at least 3/4 full, 3/4 of the journey).

There are plenty of viable alternatives which are more environmentally friendly and more cost effective. Its a win win cut - for the environment and tax payer.

stuff the environment, lets have more buses. People would use them more if they were more reliable.A bus every 3 minutes to everywhere

How can it be 'the only' service if the alternative is to use two buses?
