A413 crash driver arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

THE driver of a car that crashed on the A413 between Chalfont St. Giles and Amersham last week, leaving two people dead, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The man, who is 29, remains in hospital after the accident, but is in a stable condition.

Laura Smith, 20, of Sixty Acres Road, Prestwood, and Stephen Smith, 24, of The Common, Holmer Green died when the silver Rover they were travelling in left the A413 London Road near Chalfont St Giles at about 2.22am last Friday.

Another man, aged 21, remains in hospital in a stable condition whilst a fourth man, aged 24, was discharged from hospital earlier this week.

Police are still investigating the crash and have been carrying out checks exactly a week after it occurred.

Last night Police were at Winkers nightclub, Denham Lane, Chalfont St. Peter, handing out leaflets and speaking to people who may have been there the previous week.

They were also stopping traffic in the early hours of this morning along the A413, and handing out flyers.

Sgt Dominic Mahon, who is leading the investigation into the collision, said: “This was a tragic incident that has resulted in the death of two young people. We have a team of officers working on this investigation to establish the chain of events leading up to the collision and the causes of the collision itself.

“The aim of these checks was to make people aware of our investigation and to find out if anyone has any information that might be able to assist us. We know that the people in the car had been at Winkers nightclub prior to the collision."

Police are call for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. They are also asking to speak with anyone who may have seen the group leaving the night club on the night of the incident or was driving along the A413 at the time.

Anyone with information is urged to contact PC James Hoskin at Amersham Roads Policing base via 0845 8 505 505. Or alternatively call crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
