Shopkeeper loses licences over counterfeit wine

HUNDREDS of bottles of bogus wine, on sale at three Hillingdon shops, led to the owner having his licences revoked.
Karamjit Aujla can no longer sell alcohol at Costcutter, 268 Yeading Lane, Aujla Food and Wine, Field End Road, South Ruislip, and Aujla Cash and Carry, Yeading Lane.
Inspections were carried out in January, April and June by Hillingdon’s trading standards team.
They found 52 counterfeit bottles of Blossom Hill and Jacobs Creek wine and two bottles of non-duty paid spirit at Costcutter.
Aujla Food & Wine had 22 bottles of counterfeit Blossom Hill and Jacobs Creek, while 27 bottles of non-duty paid spirits were seized. Some of these bottles were hidden from view behind shelving plinths.
Aujla Cash & Carry, which had non-duty paid offences dating back to 2009, was stocking 103 bottles of counterfeit Blossom Hill and 18 bottles of Jacobs Creek.
Aujla did not dispute any of the evidence put forward at the hearing on January 11 and now has 21 days to appeal.
A total of eight licences have been revoked as a result of last summer's initiative in the borough.
