Woman's necklace snatched from her neck
3:50pm Friday 6th July 2012 in Where I Live By Anna Slater
A 70-year-old had her necklace snatched from her neck during an attack last week.
The woman was on her way home as she walked along Grasmere Avenue, Wembley, at around 2.30pm.
She was approached from behind before the jewellery was snatched from her neck. She shouted for help and the suspect, described as an 18-year-old black male, ran towards a red car. He was wearing a red hooded top with black or blue dark jeans.
Detective Sergeat Feeny from Priority Crime Unit said: “This is an unprovoked attack on an elderly female, given the time of day and the fact that it is a busy road junction.
“I would urge anyone who has any information to contact the police or Crimestoppers.”

The victim will probably now need counselling and support to recover her confidence, quite apart from the loss of her personal item of jewellery. The necklace probably had sentimental value as well.
It is truly such a despicable act and so thoughtless.Thank God she was not injured.
That said, with more daylight hours and the warmer weather, people tend to go about wearing lighter clothing and do not cover their jewellery.
The Metropolitan Police and local Safer Neighbourhood Teams keep reminding us to be alert precisely about such crimes and advise we cover any valuables worn with a scarf or some form of clothing.
Our Borough Commander often puts this in his blogs so we have no reason to be complacent.
I know covering items of jewellery can be a nuisance and inconvenience but it's far better than becoming a target for crooks, who will stop at nothing.
The price of gold and even silver has shot up and shows little sign of stopping. So these robberies and snatches are unlikely to cease.
It's our responsibilty to ensure we dont make it easy for the thieves.PREVENTING crime is really important.
We all know how busy our Police will be in the coming weeks so it makes good sense to take better care of ourselves as we travel or go outdoors.
Of course, its equally important that we take preventative steps against residential burglaries and also motor vehicle crime. Please dont become fearul.
Instead, be pro-active and contact your local Neighbourhood police and Neighbourhood Champions for sound advice on these important matters. It's very easy-to-follow advice and caould make the difference between becoming a victim of crime or not.
Hope the senior citizen who was robbed is alright and will,in due course, alert her friends and family about what can happen.First she needs to overcome the terrible shock she has recently suffered.
