The Mayor of Harrow paid his respects to the armed forces yesterday at a special flag raising ceremony.

The service, which took place outside the Civic Offices, in Station Road, was part of a week of events around the country celebrating Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 30.

Outside the offices were representatives from the Royal British Legion, The Welsh Guards, Standard Bearers, Youth Cadets and Police.

Mayor Harrow, Councillor said: “I was delighted to be able to raise the flag to commemorate and give thanks to all of our armed forces - past, present and future.

“It was wonderful to see our forces come together in their uniforms for the ceremony and I hope it is a tradition that will continue for many years to come.”

Armed Forces Day is a national day of events giving people the chance to show their support for troops and raise awareness of the contribution made by servicemen and women.

Hats off to our brave Armed Forces!They are truly the salt of the earth and deserve our sincere thanks for putting their lives on the line for us.

Please support them and give generously on Armed Forces day which is June 30.
