"Angry" man petitioning for pavement improvements in Colindale

A 61-year-old from Colindale is waging war on “dangerous” pavements after tripping and injuring himself.

Robert Gould, from Goldsmith Avenue, Colindale, is gathering signatures for a petition to persuade Brent Council to repair the pavements in Edgware Road.

Mr Gould is planning to visit as many local shops and businesses as possible to gather signatures.

He said: “The pavements are unlevel and they are all uneven. It is very dangerous.

“A friend of mine also fell over recently and had to go to hospital. She was in a bad way.

“I think the pavements are bad everywhere. Someone needs to do something about this.”

The party shop worker fell after tripping over a loose paving stone six weeks ago.

He injured his knees, elbow and wrists and, six weeks on, is still having a make regular trips to hospital to have his injuries treated.

Mr Gould said: “I am really angry about this because I know that the pavements have not been serviced in all the time I have lived here.

“I have been in the area for ten or 15 years and nothing has been done in all that time.”

In a statement Barnet Council said: “Although the damaged pavement is located on the Brent side of the A5, Barnet Council has an agreement in place to respond to reports on both sides of the borough boundary.

"This particular case was passed to our highways team from Brent late last night and will be mended this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning.”

How about you pick your feet up and/or look where you're going? Or sign a pledge to pay more council tax.

Just to add to the above: thanks to the Tories' enforced cuts to council budgets, Brent council and all the other local authorities won't have money for anything let alone pavement repairs by the end of the decade: http://www.telegraph

jayjoe your comment is so unfair how would you feel if this was a relative of yours ? would you still tell them to pick their feet up & pay more council tax ?

do you actually pay council tax yourself because if you do you would know how high it is & not harp on about someone paying more to avoid an accident.

Mr Gould is clearly concerned about other members of the public not just himself hence the petition

Jayjoe, Tories are only cutting as Labour borrowed so much when they should have been saving when the times were good, and Gordon sold all our contries gold at rock bottom price. Could look at the alternative and we could do a Greece, Spain or Italy and beg other countries for help as they can't manage their own finances. If this was my kid, I've give him a clip around the ear for not walking properly and lifting his legs up or not watching where they are walking.

No - the tories are only cutting in Barnet as they invested Barnet tax payers money in Icelandic banks...Money they will never recover!

Further up the A5, in West Hendon, Barnet Council negligently allowed a cable TV company to cut through all the re-inforcing bars in the road causing £250,000 of damage.

Although Barnet's Chief Engineer said it was likely to collapse and dangerous, they still allowed traffic to use the road without any safety precautions for ELEVEN months.

How's that for "Duty of Care" ?

That is really wrong what you said above I really do feel for him the same thing happened to me a few years ago I was on my scooter going round to my local shops in Glendgal Road and the pavement was up I went flying hurt my knees, elbows and face it took a long time to heal and the council did nothing. To this day I am always extra careful where I walk and it happened again a few years ago

BARNET COUNCIL SORT YOURSELVES OUT!

Barnet Council do not care what you or I say. If you try to take them to court for the damage or injury you suffered, they will lie their way through the court case, withhold any evidence from the court and then extract every penny they can from you.

How do I know - well, they did it to me.
