Two dedicated girl guides from Kingbsury are "beaming with delight" after winning an award.
Charlotte Harte and Georgina McNair, both 12, of the 4th Kingsbury Guides, were presented with the Jack Petchey Achievement Award at a ceremony on Wednesday.
Georgina, who lives in Kingsbury, said she was “speechless” to have been presented with the award.
She said: “Charlotte and I were nominated by the other girls in our Guides. I was picked because I am always trying to help other girls in my group, and help a girl with special needs too. It was such an honour, I’m so proud of myself.”
Her mum, Gerry McNair, said that Georgina was a “remarkable” young lady and was very dedicated to helping her seven-year-old brother, Aaron, who is autistic.
She said: “She’s so remarkable, definitely wise beyond her years. She’s only 12, but already has a fantastic grasp of kids with special needs. She dotes on her little brother, who is autistic, which I think is amazing. She’s worked hard for this award.”
Charlotte, who lives in Kingsbury, said she was “overjoyed” to have been presented with the award.
“I found out I was nominated when I was on Guide camp so I thought, wow! I was really overjoyed. It was really nerve-racking going up on stage to collect the award, because there were so many people there, but I’m really proud of myself.”
Her mum, Ann Harte, said: “She’s done really well to get this award, she really does have a bright future.
"Georgina and Charlotte were so excited to have won the award. They were both beaming with delight up on that stage. It was so nice to see the smiles on their faces."
The girls were presented with £200, which was put towards a camping trip for the Guide group.
