AN opportunist thief stole a handful of shirts from a Harrow-on-the-Hill resident's laundry basket.

The 54-year-old resident, who lives in Grove Hill, had left his laundry basket near to the slightly ajar kitchen window between 1am and 10.30am on Sunday.

The thief reached through the four-inch gap and snatched a handful of men's shirts from the basket.

Harrow Police have reminded residents to make sure their windows are kept closed to avoid thieves breaking in.
