Classical concert to raise cash for anti-Pinkham Way campaign

A classical concert to raise money to fight plans to build a 300,000 tonne a year waste plant in Pinkham Way will go ahead on Sunday.
Pianist Sam Haywood, who was a finalist in the BBC show Young Musician in 1986, will perform the Galitzin Chamber Ensemble from 4pm in St Andrew’s Church in Alexandra Park Road in Muswell Hill.
All proceeds will go to the The Pinkham Way Alliance, a campaign opposing the waste processing plant proposed by The North London Waste Authority (NLWA), on a site adjoining Muswell Hill Golf Course.
If plans are waived through, Pinkham Way would deal with waste from seven boroughs across north London - Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest.
Member of the Pinkham Way Alliance, Sakina Chenot, said: “There’s now a real risk that the North London Waste Authority will try and push forward the planning application for a massive facility at Pinkham Way.
“With the huge momentum behind them to secure this site, it is of crucial importance that we continue to raise money to pay for the vital legal advice that we need to fight their plans.”
Campaigners have staged protests over the last 18 months outside council meetings across north London calling for the proposals to be abandoned.
They are concerned air quality will be affected if the plant is built and fleets of waste trucks could bring heavy traffic to the already congested North Circular Road.
Concert tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16.
