A five-year-old girl from Southgate said it was “very exciting” to meet pop star Peter Andre after winning a story writing competition.
Peter Andre presented Scarlett Kavanagh, from Walker School, Southgate, with a trophy for her story about the Minchenden Oak tree in Grovelands Park, Southgate.
Her story, which is currently on display at City Hall, is due to be included in an exhibition at the Olympic Village later this year.
Scarlett said: “It was very exciting meeting Peter Andre and he told me how much he enjoyed my story.”
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, cabinet member for schools and children’s services, said: “I am delighted that Scarlett chose to write about something of interest to her and many other people, and now that she has won this award her story will be on display at the Olympic Village for many world class athletes to read.”
The story was part of a competition called Welcome to my Borough organised by Transport for London (TfL) and the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
The stories were inspired by favourite landmarks seen in TfL’s walk once a week scheme, which encourages children to walk to school.
Children from more than 200 London schools took part, and Scarlett’s tale is one of 20 to win an award. Her story explains why the tree is special and describes the bench around the bottom of the trunk where visitors can sit and relax.
The award ceremony took place at City Hall on Thursday, January 26.
