Around one in eight secondary school children in Enfield will see an event at the Olympic or Paralympic Games under a free ticket scheme.
In a letter to Enfield Council, chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) Seb Coe and Mayor of London Boris Johnson said that 4,472 tickets had been given to schools in the borough, with most going to secondary schools and colleges.
35 secondary schools and colleges will receive a share of 3572 tickets, with the rest being shared among 62 primary schools.
Lord Coe and Mr Johnson wrote that the response from Enfield – the only borough where 100 per cent of schools have signed up the Olympics’ educational Get Set Network – was “extraordinary”.
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, cabinet member for schools, said that she was also “delighted” that many older students were volunteering at the Games.
She added: “Our schools have been encouraged by our school sports officers to get behind the Olympics with a real passion.
“Children are learning about the Olympics in so many ways – in history lessons, geography and of course in their PE training and games sessions.”
