A Great British Bake Off finalist is opening a pop up restaurant for citrus lovers in Southgate this afternoon.
Urvashi Roe, from Enfield Chase, will cook a lemon, lime and orange themed afternoon tea at the Maze Inn in Chase Side, for about 30 people. Mrs Roe, who has always wanted to own her own restaurant, has a passion for naturally grown foods in her cooking.
She said: “I am quite fascinated about where food comes from and how it is grown.
“It is all about moderation and I just believe if you deprive yourself of things you like eating, that releases bad vibes too.”
She added: “I wanted to make a menu that was slightly different to an ordinary afternoon tea.
“Most people are given a piece of smoked salmon and a piece of cake but I wanted to make it much more about an experience.”
Food on the menu will include lemon meringue tart, citrus macaroons and orange polenta cake.
She said: “I have been preparing all of Friday so it is calming to know that I know my way around the kitchen - that has put my mind at rest.”
“I am a bit of a control freak so I like to know my way around. I love seeing people eat my food and smile, it is an amazing sense of accomplishment.”
The restaurant is opening from 3pm to 5pm as part of the Pipe Dream company based in Enfield, which enables people to run their own restaurant on a temporary basis.
