Elderly valentines will get the chance to celebrate with swing after a group of Middlesex University students organised an event for the “forgotten” community.
The six event management students from the university started the Giving Time Events organisation after being told to come up with ideas as part of their course, and want to help pensioners in Enfield celebrate Valentine’s Day.
They hope to put on their Vintage Valentine Fifties-style tea dance at the campus in Trent Park on February 17, and are appealing for donations to help them hire musicians and provide catering for the event.
Group member Jess Treadgold told the Enfield Independent: “It started off as something as part of our course and we were thinking of putting on a trendy event in Shoreditch.
“But then we realised we wanted to put on something for people who are sometimes forgotten about – and we wanted to give them time and energy rather than just money.
“We want to provide our guests with an event that is active and fun for a generation that has given so much to our society.”
The group hopes to raise £500 – for more information and to donate click here.
