FOUR new tennis leagues will be launched in Enfield next month to encourage adults to play and get fit.
The Local Tennis Leagues, part of Enfield Council's "Everybody Active" programme, will be based in Albany Park, Broomfield Park Bush Hill Park and the courts off Church Street, and will comprise mixed singles for men and women.
Players who sign up will be organised into groups of around seven, who will arrange mutually convenient times to play over an eight-week period.
Entry costs £10, and players who complete three matches before the halfway point are posted a free tube of tennis balls.
The winner of each group receives £20 and a winner’s certificate.
Sally Kinnes, co-founder of Local Tennis Leagues, said: “Parks have great facilities and often excellent opportunities for children, but adult players can miss out.
"By giving a structure to their tennis, we are encouraging more people to play the sport. It is great fun and the best way to improve at the game.”
Jan Hickman, Enfield sports development manager, added: “Tennis is a great way to get fit and enjoy the open.
"Most of all I hope people will enjoy their competitions.”
The four Everybody Active leagues will run from Monday, April 19, to Sunday, June 13, and the deadline to join is April 12.
Players who are interested in taking part in the new leagues should visit www.localtennisleagues.com and follow the link to their choice of league.
Alternatively, they can email the organisers at localtennisleagues@googlemail.com.
