TEAMS of students from schools across Enfield have come up with dramatic ways to teach youngsters about road safety.

The pupils, from four secondary schools, have reached the final of a drama competition to help primary children become more traffic aware.

The Enfield Council contest required the students to write, produce and act their own theatrical skits lasting up to 30 minutes.

Turin Grove School, Broomfield School, Highlands School and Kingsmead School will now perform their plays before a panel, which will vote for the overall winner.

The panel includes Mayor of Enfield, Councillor Eleftherios Savva, and Garfield Primary School’s assistant head teacher Nicola Kadem.

Enfield road safety manager Roger Miles said: “The standard of the plays has been very high and there are some strong themes coming through.

"We need to tackle road safety imaginatively and this is a great way to get older students to think about road safety, as well as younger students, and improve safety for all of them.”

The plays will be judged at Millfield Theatre, in Silver Street, Edmonton, next Tuesday.

The winning students will take away a cash prize of £5,000, which will be presented by the mayor. They will also tour Enfield primary schools in the summer term.
