Schoolchildren invited to free film screenings of Brave, Mirror Mirror, Puss in Boots and The Muppets for National Film Week

Teachers in Borehamwood have the chance to snap up thousands of free cinema tickets for their students as part of a national campaign to encourage film education.

National Schools Films Week is providing all pupils in Borehamwood the chance to see Brave, Mirror Mirror, Puss in Boots and The Muppets at the Reel Cinema, Shenley Road.

Students will then be encouraged to research the history of local cinema and film in Elstree and Borehamwood.

Nick Walker, festival director, said: “The festival seeks to create a greater awareness and understanding of cinema based on the concept of relationships and dialogues in a variety of films and address issues of cultural exchange.

“It also aims to raise awareness amongst teaching professionals of the use of film across the school curriculum.

“This is achieved by in-cinema talks and online resources, to give teachers the tools to encourage students to explore and understand new cinematic worlds.”

The national week runs from October 15 to 26, and the free film screenings will be available from 23 to 25 October.

Last year, Merryfield Primary School, Theobold Street, Kenilworth Primary School, Kenilworth Drive and Parkside Primary School, in Aycliffe Road, are some of the schools in Borehamwood which took part.

Teachers can book their free tickets online at www.nationalschoolsfilmweek.org.
