Charity football match to take place next month

A charity football match will be taking place next month in memory of a man who died last year.

The match, which will kick off at Borham Wood FC’s ground, in Meadow Park, at 2pm on July 15, will see a team from north Borehamwood battling it out with a team from south Borehamwood.

Money will go to the Sam Keen Foundation, which raises money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The foundation was set up last year following the passing of Sam Keen, from Borehamwood, who died in November after losing a seven-year battle with cancer.

Organiser of the game Andrew Mellish, 36, said: “A group of guys have been playing a match like this for a couple of years now and this time around I thought it would be a great chance to raise some money for charity.

“Sam was a member of the group who played football and I thought it would be appropriate to raise money for the foundation set up in his memory.”

As well as the football game, there will be a family day with face painting, bouncy caste and other activities for people to enjoy.

Anyone interested in attending the game and the family day can buy a ticket by visiting http://samkeentrophy.eventbrite.com/.
