An allotment holder has welcomed the announcement reclaimed plots will be made available for people keen to grow their own.
As previously reported, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council announced 20 plots will be reclaimed at two allotment sites in the area.
Tony Cox, 72, of Summers Grove, Estree, has had a plot on the Allum Lane site since 1987 and has said he is glad the planned work to clear parts of the allotments is going ahead.
He said: “I think its fantastic news really and I’m looking forward to seeing some new faces around the site.
“Now the allotments can flourish again, because at one point holders were worried the Allum Lane site may be closed because of lack of up take, so it’s great news new holders are able to join us.
“Working on the allotment keeps you healthy and is better than going to the gym. There’s great a sense of achievement you get when you grow your own food.”
Plots on allotment sites in Allum Lane and Melrose Avenue are due to be cleared after several had become overgrown and were no longer suitable for use.
