A burst water main has lead to a road being closed by police.
Brook Road, Borehamwood, has been closed in both directions after a water pipe burst and flooded most of the road and neighbouring Fairview Avenue.
Water erupted on to the road shortly after 3.15pm just as pupils were being picked up at St Teresa’s Primary School opposite.
Joanne Bailiss, who was picking up her son from the school said: “I can’t believe how quickly it happened. One mum drove past one minute and it was fine, then the next there was water everywhere.
“The kids love it because they think there won’t be any school tomorrow.”
Water flowed down the road from the junction with Fairview Avenue to Broughinge Road.
Maintenance crews have been called to the scene and the burst pipe should be fixed by tomorrow morning.
Police at the scene said the road will be closed until the water had been turned off and the surface flooding had drained away.
