PARENTS can say “bonjour” to a new French club for young children starting in Borehamwood.
Club Escargot, for six to 12 year olds, will have classes on a Saturday morning.
The two-hour classes will be run by qualified teachers from France and aim to introduce children to learning French through activity.
Organiser Martine Eni, chairman of Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association (BETTA), said: “Our aim is to introduce children to the fun of learning French as early as possible, as well as discovering the culture and customs.
“The classes cover the basics of the language including parts of the body, colours, numbers, greetings, animals, clothes, transport, weather and this is through songs, rhymes, activities, cooking sessions and games.
“Towards the end of the lesson, the children have a break with songs and listen to a French story.”
Mrs Eni believes communications skills can improve through these lessons and children can get a head start with the languages part of the primary school curriculum.
She added: “During the term, we will bring magazines from France for the children to coincide with special events including Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter and Bastille Day.
“Mums and dads can treat themselves to some shopping or just a cup of tea during those two hours. What better activities can you imagine for your little ones during a Saturday morning?”
At the end of the term parents will be invited to a French meal prepared by the children.
The project is being supported by Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council and Tesco, in Shenley Road, Borehamwood.
