94-year-old Bill Humphrey was found stabbed to death in his Borehamwood home
POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a 94-year-old from Borehamwood was stabbed to death in his home.
A 30-year-old man from Borehamwood was arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of murder and is being held in police custody.
Ninety-four-year-old William George Humphrey, known as Bill, was stabbed to death at his home in Brook Road on Tuesday, sometime between 3.30pm and midnight.
Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Steve Collin, of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area around this time.
"If you saw anything suspicious or anyone behaving suspiciously, please get in contact.
“It is believed that property has gone missing from the victim’s home, including a 32 inch television.
“Police can be contacted in the strictest confidence via the incident room on 01707 355666 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The arrested man is also being questioned in relation to a series of bag snatches that occurred in the area.
Hertsmere Chief Inspector Sue Jameson added: “The Safer Neighbourhood Team are in the vicinity carrying out high visibility patrols and the mobile police station is also available if the public want to speak to officers.”
She added: “We would still like to appeal to anyone who might have information about the robberies to come forward."

The area we lived in had stabbings,muggings, burglaries galore.
Until a few years ago this area was still quite safe compared to other places.
You cant blame the police for this dreadful cowardly crime on a kindly 94 yr old man,they cant cope with all the crime most of it drug related.
There are far to many people living here now blame the government for that not the Police.
Rest in peace Bill you didnt deserve to die like this,my heart goes out to your family at this awful time xxx.

And still they want more??? all you have to do is look on the Hertfordshire Police web site on the wanted page and you will see that the majority of the people are foreigners.
Even when they are caught and jailed its still us thats feeding them.
This country is really stupid allowing all of this,in his own country (Brazil I think) he would more than likely hang for this evil cowardly deed.
Bring back the rope its the only answer these people have no respect for human life also if he has been charged with snatching hand bags of elderly women and pushing them into the road he is pure evil.
I hope he gets his come uppance in prison he deserves a life of hell in there.

I believe a public meeting is in order for all the residents of Borehamwood. We are really on the map this week and not in a good way!! Anyone else prepared to attend, with the police present and our local councillors?
