Borehamwood poker player breaks world record for longest tournament

A POKER player from Borehamwood has broken the world record for the longest poker tournament while at the same time raising money for charity.

Paul Zimbler, 31, successfully completed the tournament at the Empire Casino in Leicester Square, London, last Thursday.

During the tournament he raised almost £30,000 for charity Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, which grants the wishes of children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Mr Zimbler started the game last Monday and ended 78 hours, 25 minutes and 45 seconds later on Thursday beating the previous record of 74 hours and 12 minutes.

He remained awake for the whole tournament, which had around 200 players taking part. Each player bought a 20-minute slot during which time they played Mr Zimbler and helped him set the new record.

The tournament coincided with The World Series of Poker Europe being held at the casino.

Mr Zimbler is managing director of The International Poker School, which opened in July, in Manor Way, Borehamwood.
