Fashion show at iBar in Whetstone raises £10k for Cancer Research UK

MODELS took to the catwalk for a charity fundraising fashion show in a Whetstone music bar last week.

An afternoon of clothes and cuisine at iBar, in High Road, last Wednesday, helped raise almost £10,000 for Cancer Research UK.

About 200 women turned out to watch the fashion show, which featured designs from Moi 2, a boutique in High Road.

The event was organised by Cancer Research UK's Totteridge Society, and the venue was provided for free by Nick Berlevy, owner of iBar.

Gabriella Pignatelli, who helped coordinate the show for the society, has lost friends to cancer and said that is part of the reason why she is committed to helping out the cause.

“It is great when everyone helps by chipping in,” she said.

“We always get great support from the community. People are very generous and it is always nice when the community puts a bit back.”

The show raised almost £10,000 through ticket sales and a raffle, and the afternoon was compèred by Gold radio presenter Dean Martin.

Mr Berlevy said: “It a fantastic day and a fantastic fashion show.

“We are trying to do as many charitable events as possible.

“I think it is a good thing to try and give back as much as we can to the community and to any charity with a worthy cause.”

All the money raised from the show will go towards improving the understanding of cancer and finding out how to prevent, diagnose and treat different forms of the disease, as well as improving the lives of cancer patients.

Katie Billingham, Cancer Research UK area volunteer manager, said: “We are very grateful to the Totteridge Society for their hard work and continued support.

“It’s thanks to the energy and commitment of our supporters that Cancer Research UK’s scientists, doctors and nurses are able to go on making progress towards our vision: together we will beat cancer.”
