CHIPPING Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has stepped into the row over planned strikes by British Airways cabin crew.
The Conservative Shadow Transport Minister spoke in the House of Commons yesterday to urge cabin crew to call of the planned strike by members of the Unite union, due to take affect next week.
She said: “Since before Christmas the Conservatives have been urging Unite to cancel the strike, which will inflict huge misery on passengers and serious damage on BA. Will the Minister join me in urging cabin crew to work despite the call for strike action?”
Today she also condemned the union for attempting to get other organisations overseas to join them in strike action.
She added: “Labour’s union paymasters at Unite seem hell-bent on causing maximum disruption for passengers and maximum damage to BA.
“The news that Unite are pulling out all the stops to frustrate the efforts BA is making to keep their passengers flying and save their holidays will be greeted with anger and frustration by all the unfortunate victims of this irresponsible strike.
“Unite should not be striking at all and trying to spread the dispute to other countries is even more irresponsible.”
