Thieves target chip and pin machine at station

4:02pm Thursday 22nd October 2009

TRANSPORT police have released images of two people they want to question in relation to the theft of a chip and pin machine from a train station office.

The CCTV pictures of a man and a woman have been sent out by British Transport Police (BTP) in a bid to track down the pair.

The appeal follows the theft of a chip and pin machine from New Barnet rail station, in Station Approach, at about 8.30pm on Tuesday, August 18.

BTP PC Scott Emery, the investigating officer, said: “A member of staff closed the ticket office and pulled the shutter down to cover the window on Tuesday. However, upon returning at 5.30am the next day, it was noticed that the shutter had been broken into and the chip and pin machine stolen.

“We are keen to speak to the pair in the images as we believe they can help us with our enquiries.”

The man is described as white, aged between 16 and 22, about 5’9” tall and with short black hair. He was wearing a grey hoodie, grey tracksuit bottoms and a beanie hat.

The woman is described as a white in her late teens, about 5’5” tall and wearing a black hoodie and black tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with any information that may assist officers, or who recognises either of the people, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number 160 of 19/8/09. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
